4.5 stars for the box set of the storm series 1-5. Tessa Aubrey left her corporate life after the death of her beloved aunt and now owns a pizzeria in Nova Scotia. Tessa is existing in the town of Liverpool just running the business and living above the shop until a movie production comes to town. During a storm with the electricity out she grants none other than the beautiful Mr Banks shelter from the elements. Tessa is drawn to this man and regardless of the fact he is only in town for a short while during filming, she acts on her desires.

Timothy Banks is a Hollywood actor that has captured the hearts of women everywhere with his exceptional good looks and his enchanting British Accent. Tim is the kind of guy that takes his mother to awards shows and always has a nice thing to say. He is the small town boy that is down to earth / approachable and has not let any of his fame go to his head. There is always two sides to anyone in the spotlight and Tim is no exception. With Tim's flip side it mostly pertains to his needs in the bedroom. The man is hotter than the sun and is also part of the BDSM community as a Dom. Tim is not the strict protocols and 24/7 lifestyle but he is very alpha with what he expects from his partner sexually. Tessa will be no exception to this rule as he introduces her to what he likes and learns how to please her as well.

Tessa and Tim enter into a D/s relationship and things flourish rather brilliantly and quickly yet Tessa is still holding back pieces of herself and doubting exactly what this is while Tim has to overcome trust issues since he lives such a public life. They both realize that what they have is the real deal but how do you go about an intense, all-consuming relationship that has an expiration date?

So glad I was able to read this as a box set since the way the individual novellas ended would have left me dying until I could have read the next book. Loved the storyline and the characters that are flawed but very real. I will look for more from this author again.

Tessa has isolated herself since her Aunt's death. She has just gotten through each day and on to the next. Her business is good, she has friends and now she has a to weather a storm in her small town with a movie being filmed there. This is good for the whole town with all the media and production people.

Tim is filming his next movie in this small town. When he finds himself wet and cold one evening, one person gives him a warm place to dry his clothes and warm up, until she kicks him out of her apartment, due to a remark his assistant made.

Tessa and Tim get off on the wrong foot and end up spending time with one another but the media is relentless while following Tim. Tim is used to the media in his world, it's part of it, but when the media jump onto Tessa, he feels guilty that he has brought this into her world.

Both have pasts that bring them sadness and grief. Tessa finds herself dealing with the death and mourning of her aunts death, along with the media blitz with her Tim's relationship, but through it, she realizes, she is not alone, Tim is there being strong for them both.

The characters flow with one another, their past hurts, the time spent together is all real, no splendor of Hollywood, just being real with each other. Tim gives Tessa time and space to find her place again and Tessa can only hope Tim still wants a life with her.

Tim Banks is almost perfect!! Hot Dom!!

Timothy Banks, hot Hollywood actor. Tessa, former career-obsessed business consultant, now pizza and coffee shop owner. She’s running from her past, and has settled in a new town running her own business, and made a few new friends. One stormy night, a handsome actor knocks on her door, and her life changes immediately.

Tim is in town filming a movie, and happens upon Tessa’s pizza/coffee shop. Their attraction is immediate, and between movie takes, Tim attempts to woo Tessa. Tim is a Dominant, and although it surprises Tessa, she’s intrigued by Tim’s seemingly two sides—well-mannered, easy to talk to, funny and smart; in Dom mode, he’s brings out Tessa’s darker desires.

To me, Tim was the perfect combination of hard Dom, and sweet, kind, considerate big beautiful hunk of a man. Tessa was the girl who wasn’t impressed with the trappings of a famous guy that all the women would love to have. She had her own mind, and isn’t afraid to express it. She’s just what Tim wants and needs.

I loved the box set. It was a nice, hot and fun read. The story flowed great, and it seemed longer than it was. It didn’t feel like a group of short stories, but a nice novel.

I received this ARC for an honest review, and I give it 5 stars.

Critics were not surprised at Mantel's Booker Prize win, despite stiff competition that included A. S. Byatt's The Children's Book and J. M. Coetzee's Summertime. Wolf Hall offers a fascinating and expertly researched look at a man famously villainized in the play and film A Man for All Seasons and Showtimes's more recent bodice-ripping series The Tudors. Despite the effusive praise, critics thought that the vast array of characters (many named Thomas) and titles of nobility may leave some readers scratching their heads despite the guide Mantel provides in the book. Nevertheless, this intriguing human portrait should leave most readers anticipating the promised sequel.

Great Potential but Poor Editing

I dislike three star reviews. I'm a like it or don't person, but with a book that is equal parts good and bad three stars is the best option. I put off reading this book for several years because I was aware of the "he" issue. I finally decided to give it a go and while the book had great potential, there are major editing issues that detract from the readers' ability to get lost in the story. I would love to see this book re-edited and re-released for its' tenth anniversary.

First, what I liked. The characterizations are very cleverly written and engaging. Mantel made me see people whose history I am very familiar with in an entirely different, and more human, light. Call-Me-Risley, Uncle Norfolk, Cardinal Wolsey, Charles Brandon, and Cromwell himself are written with good humor and insight. Despite the books flaws, I highlighted more lines and passages on my kindle than I normally do, and some bits I have carried with me into my life. Arrange your face is damn good advice. Cromwell in particular is very well done; not only did he take on a personality beyond any depiction I have read of him so far, including biographical, but he is presented as a man of many talents, layers, and surprises. There is surprisingly good work here.

However, there are flaws and one must go in knowing them or you won't get through this thing. The transitions can be abrupt and the chronology at times confusing. While I don't depend on a linear timeline per se, this book tends to float around in time/memory and you can find yourself reading a few pages back to find out where you are. And then there's the overriding issue of "he", which is every bit as obnoxious as other reviewers have stated. Quite honestly, more than once I found myself saying that these are rules a fifth grade writer understands. Truly. Maybe it was an attempt at being atmospheric or deep, but instead it continually pulls the reader out of the story. It lent an aura of confusion and ambiguity to the entire book. For example:

"Old Wykys was queasy when they put out to see. He stayed on deck, making himself useful; you must have been a ship's boy, master, one of the crew said." The "he" in question being Cromwell, not Wykys as all basic rules of grammar and writing dictate.

" 'Princes are not obliged to consitency' he says. He thinks, I may forget myself, lean across, and push you overbaord." The first he being Brandon (or Norfolk, I forget), while the second he is Cromwell. Seriously.

Someone - probably Henry Norris - laughs. It is he who speaks. 'The king has one child born in wedlock.' " He being, again, Cromwell.

So that's unfortunate. Later in the book it turns into "he, Cromwell," which is only more annoying. I wanted to give this four stars but the "he" issue is too big to overlook. The book had huge potential and is overall a good read with great characters and wonderful bits of wisdom and history. But the writer is only as good as her editor and that editor should be fired. I'm glad I finally read Wolf Hall but I won't continue with the series, or read any of Mantel's work, unless I'm confident she has fixed the "he" issue.

WISH I HAD READ MORE REVIEWS

I kept hearing that this was good won awards blah blah blah I like the Tudor period this was a different perspective, first of all if I had realized it was in the first person present tense I probably would never have bothered, but I did so I dove in gave it a fair shot. I could not finish this book and I rarely ever don't finish a book. There is almost constant confusion over who was talking and just random mid conversation reminiscing about characters that don't matter are never introduced for reasons that are unfathomable and then back to the conversation but by then you are still trying to figure out what that last bit was supposed to be you have no idea who is talking at that point, ugh it gave me a headache. I could only read as much as i did by doing it in small intervals. Its a shame I would love to see a better written coherent story from this characters perspective, Thomas Cromwell is largely overlooked just a side player in other people's stories it would have been interesting to hear his thoughts just maybe not from the such a confusing perspective and maybe with a little more coherency and attention to plot rather than random burbles of time here and there, not always in chronological order either. So my advice read more reviews to get a better idea of what to expect and if possible try this out from a library before you waste your money to see if you can even read it. Bottom line an intriguing concept that deserved to be done better. I look forward to seeing what they do with the miniseries as I think the visual medium would hopefully eliminate the majority of the flaws.

Complex Cromwell stars in this meaty, historical novel

This is a hearty, substantial book filled to the brim with history, politics, and many, many characters. There's much to love here, including complex characterizations, political drama, historical intrigue, lyrical descriptions, and subtle turns of phrases in dialogue, but you have to be willing to really commit to this book. In particular, it requires attention to keep the characters and dialogue straight. As others have noted, there are many characters named Thomas and Henry, which proves challenging at times, and led me to rely heavily on the character list. And Mantel uses "he" to mean Cromwell, even when it's not intuitive. However, once I was accustomed to these idiosyncrasies, I quickly fell in love with this book. I loved the complex Cromwell, who beguiles the reader with his ruthless political ambition but charms with his fierce loyalty to family and friends, as well as the volatile Anne Boleyn, who alternates between supreme confidence and impulsive insecurity as newly crowned queen.

If you're a fan of historical fiction, political intrigue, and meaty, substantial books, I highly recommend Wolf Hall for your next book to read.

Good book. Pictures can be a little unclear and descriptions can be difficult to understand at times, but overall very useful for physical therapy treatment of spine and pelvis. would be better if it came with a DVD.

About the Author

Donald E. Carlucci has been an engineer at the U.S. Army Armament, Research, Development and Engineering Center, Picatinny Arsenal, since May 1989. He is currently the U.S. Army senior scientist for computational structural modeling based at Picatinny. He holds a doctor of philosophy in mechanical engineering (2002) and a master of engineering (mechanical) (1995) degree from the Stevens Institute of Technology, Hoboken, New Jersey. In 1987, he received his bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from the New Jersey Institute of Technology, Newark, New Jersey. Dr. Carlucci is an adjunct professor of mechanical engineering at the Stevens Institute of Technology.

Sidney S. Jacobson was a researcher, designer, and developer of ammunition and weapons at the U.S. Army’s Picatinny Arsenal in New Jersey for 35 years. He rose from junior engineer to associate director for R&D at the arsenal. In 1972, he was awarded an Arsenal Educational Fellowship to study continuum mechanics at Princeton University where he received his second MS degree (1974). He earned a master of science in applied mechanics from Stevens Institute of Technology (1958) and a bachelor of arts in mathematics from Brooklyn College (1951). He retired in 1986 but maintains his interest in the field through teaching, consulting, and lecturing.

A complete description of all phases from gun to the target

This discussion concerning how a projectile starts its flight, flies to the target, and does things to the target is rather complete. My expertise is more in terminal ballistics (what happens against steel armor), but I learned a number of things I had not found previously in any other source. The only thing that I would like is a set of tables giving common examples of the values of various quantities used in the formulae, such as the "Hugonoit Elastic Limit" used in the metal armor always-ricochet angle formulae, for example -- a formula cannot be tested if the values necessary to solve it are not available. Tables for chemical parameters are included, but not the needed metallurgical parameters. Alternatively, sources for finding these parameters could be included in the text. Minor point, though.
