Unforgettable, Transforming.

Any of you who know Chuck, know he has an incredible teaching gift, whether orally or through written word. Someone gave this to me when I was lost and seeking truth. It was a life-changer for me, literally. Poetic, to the point, power packed in its 90+ pages, it will grab your heart and hold on to parts of you that need awakening and refreshment. Its one you could confidently share with someone who is hurting and needing comfort. Or, as the title says, encouragement. This book is a sweet, healthy serving of both.

Very few things get 5 stars from me. This one does, emphatically. Thank you and God bless you, Chuck.

It is a really good book especially if you're discouraged. I love the third chapter the best. I would encourage anyone who feels like giving up to read this book. The title is very appropriate.

A short (80 or so page) book that emphasizes the role of God in rebounding from adversity. leaning heavily on Psalms in particular, the book emphasizes the need to both be encouraged by the information and approaches found in scripture, but also to serve as an encouragement for others in our works, words and example.

I would classify the author's approach as fundamentalist Christian at its core, and the examples given tend to lean heavily on Old Testament stories of dispair and redemption - especially David. The book also has homespun wisdom that is not solely Christian, but is practical in keeping your head up, understanding that your current perception may not be reality, and that throughout history, things always cycle.

Richard Knaak always does a good job on these books and this one is no exception. It is somewhat irritating that it is being done in several small segments instead of all at once. It would have nice to read the entire storyline as opposed to just a few chapters.

Quick read

I enjoyed this even though it was short. Cannot wait until book II comes out next month. I'm a huge lore fan and have all the novels, comics, short stories, graphic novels, etc and this was fun. If you are confused with this book, read Thrall: Twilight of the Aspects and then read the short story Charge of the Aspects. This short story can be found on the wow website under lore and short stories. I hope that helps and you all enjoy this as much as I!

Suddenly I understand the antipathy for Knaak's Warcraft books

I'm writing this review having just finished the fifth part of the series/novel chunks/whatever you want to call it, and I'm looking at the work as a whole. I came into it as a fan of Knaak, having enjoyed his work since the Dragonlance and Dragonrealm days. I've often heard people denigrate him for his Warcraft novels, which puzzled me. I wasn't pleased with some of the stuff in Wolfheart, but having now read Dawn of the Aspects, I understand why people hate on his books so much.

From the start, his characterizations are awful and inconsistent with other presentations of the characters. I haven't read the older Warcraft novels, so perhaps how Kalecgos was portrayed matches how he was at some point in the novels, but it certainly doesn't match where he and Jaina ended up at the end of Tides of War, which this follows both in publication date and the lore timeline. The little we see of modern day Alexstraza doesn't really match where she should be either. She attempted to withdraw from the world following Korialstraz's death. For her to do so again so quickly (especially quickly for a creature who has existed for at least ten thousand years) is ridiculous.

There are logical inconsistencies that are obnoxious as well and threw me out of what little immersion I was able to grasp from the story. For example, it's declared that the dragons are now infertile. Why would five individual dragons losing extra special powers (that of being the Aspects) render the entire species infertile? They are not the only dragons around, nor is it suggested that they are. The Aspects were not the only ones of their flights to reproduce either. It makes no sense at all. The various wars of the time during World of Warcraft has decimated their numbers, to be sure, but to suggest that there will be no more fertile eggs laid ever, from a species that was previously extremely fecund (witness the vast number of whelps present in the game), is ridiculous. There are other examples, ranging from small, but extremely stupid (Kalecgos finding the vision of another dragon ripping hungrily into a fish to be disturbing. He's a predator too, he'd eat in a similar fashion!), to huge (the big bad is described as having numerous functional limbs emerging from his body, but those left no evidence such as bones behind).

The conclusion seemed rather abrupt and rushed. I was 64% of the way through the fifth part when I realized how close I was to the end with no conclusion in sight. The story ends at about 92% (a huge section at the back of each part is given to repeating a bunch of stuff about World of Warcraft, which seems a bit silly, since who else would be reading these books?) It feels a bit off to have almost 10% of each chunk we are paying for not be part of the story.

While I appreciated the book being split up into parts instead of being asked to pay the ridiculous $10-15 they demand for each full e-book all at once (yeah, it ended up being about the same pricewise, but it felt better in little chunks), I would recommend staying far, far away. The time travel tropes are way overdone in Warcraft and the associated novels anyway, and this is so poorly written that it's not worth the frustration trying to make sense of it (hint: it doesn't) brings. It's sad to see what is overall such a noble group of beings in WoW treated so poorly both in writing and the lore it establishes.

Grade 2-5-- Another madcap tale of the Wild West from the same duo that created the rollicking Charlie Drives the Stage (Holiday, 1989). Shorty Long is in debt to everyone; when they start demanding payment, he figures death is the only way out, and fakes his demise--coffin and all. Widow Macrae isn't fooled, though, and sits up all night to watch the body. If Shorty doesn't move by morning, she'll nail the coffin and bury it. And if he does move, he pays up. As luck would have it, a group of on-the-run bandits happen upon the phony corpse and, out of respect, try to close the coffin. But to do so they'll have to trim Shorty's very long nose, and he jumps up to protest. The shocked robbers take flight, leaving their loot behind, and Shorty is saved in more ways than one. Like the earlier title, this story is carried by the exaggerated "down-home," folksy humor. And once again, Rounds' crayon-and-line drawings, rugged and comical, perfectly complement the story's kooky wit. The story itself is not as convincing or smooth as the first yarn, and the premise of faked death may be confusing to some younger literal readers. Favorite Characters: Shorty Long, Widow Macrae, Smiley Dunlap, and Oregon Parrott
Shorty Long owes everyone money and Widow Macrae wants her money now! Shorty is afraid to pay because than everyone will want their money, too. So Shorty acts died, but Widow realizes that Shorty is not died and offers to bury him. Shorty remains still as Widow watches him into the night. Widow says she will burry him in the morning if he doesn't move by than.
The story takes a twist when a gang of outlaws show up see Shorty in the coffin. Shorty remains still even as the outlaws talk about a train they robbed and the money they stole. But wait till you see what happens when one of them suggest to cut Shorty's nose off to make him fit in the coffin. You'll have to read the book to see what happens and if Widow gets his money. You will get a laugh out of this book!

A great story and horrifying

A great story and horrifying. I hope Sybil had a satisfying life. It is a crime what was taken from her and that no one will ever pay. Fascinating how therapy has changed since 1973. Psychotherapy took years, but when the therapist finally got around to using hypnosis, progress improved. As a psychologist, I am grateful we have moved from the days of Freud's therapy techniques that were used with Sybil to a more rational model.

Even though it turns out that this isn't really a true story, it is just...messed up. I don't know how else to describe it. The level of abuse and complexity of the personalities is astounding. It's worth reading, but if you are easily upset by graphic content, you might reconsider. It is definitely a page turner!

Schreiber is brilliant at creating an atmosphere

This book has had an effect on me ever since I read it when I was in 7th grade. I really don't care what some "experts" and "professionals" say, I believe 100% that Sybil/Shirley was telling the truth. Maybe it's because I was verbally abused as a child that I can relate more to the book. Who knows? The book is so moving, so haunting at times. Schreiber is brilliant at creating an atmosphere. I could go on and on and on, but I won't. I still believe and always will.

Just wow

The movie of 9 1/2 weeks was on TV (haven't seen the movie in decades) and I noticed the line "based on the book..." I looked up Elizabeth McNeill in the Kindle book dept and bought the book. The book is amazingly well written and incredible that it is something of an autobiography. It must have taken a lot of courage to relive her experiences while writing the pages. It's a great story of the lure a D/s relationship can have and the warning of what it can do to not only one's body but soul.
It's a quick read but I don't feel like I've been cheated. I can feel the author through her words and that is enough. Intense.

not a love story at all.

I like the memoir of the writer, Elizabeth McNeill. very unusual read. It is not a love story for those of you out there considering buying it . Its more of a sad story about a regular mid 30s woman living in NYC and a guy whom you think is kinda ok, but quickly it turns dark. I think the story is based on true events in her life that happened to her for a couple months of her life, but this strange relationship messed with her finally she had enough and ended it. My personal opinion is that it could easily happen to anyone looking for love, but ending up with the wrong person. Not a happy story at all. just want to be clear about that. thank you.

Interesting perspective,but boring

I was curious about this book as I've heard so much about it. The story was interesting, how this woman allowed this man to completely dominate her, and coming from her perspective. That is why I don't give it 1 star. But too, there was pages and pages that I skipped over, like about 10 pages of her searching through his closets and drawers. I don't see what is interesting about that. I won't ever pick up this book again, as a matter of fact, I threw it away. It wasn't what I expected. I am curious to see how the movie goes, though, and will most likely rent that. It was the author's way of talking too, where you didn't know who was saying what. I can't imagine going through this though, and was horrified by what he had her do. The scene where he has her dressing as a man would have been my limit. That grossed me out. Then the prostitute scene was too much. I'm in no way a prude, but the book bored me.
