Despite wartime difficulties, Shahoian's anecdotes are jovial and insightful, painting a picture of Armenian and Assyrian refugees, as they set up tent cities, went to school, looked for jobs, fell in love, and strove for a better future for themselves. On the Banks of the Tigris was originally published in Armenian, and it has now been translated into English, with a new historical introduction and annotations.

A lesser known deportation

The historical introduction to this book relates, for the first time, the history of a ledsser known deportation of the Armenians of Shadakh (south of Van) as well as Assyrians from hakiyari and Armenians and Assirians from Salmasd and Urumiye all the way to Baaquba in modern day Iraq during 1918. The ordeal starts from shadakh and then into northwestern iran (Salmasd and Urumiye) and then continues all the way to Hamadan and Kermanshah, where the deportees are welcommed by the British administration. A total of some 20,000 Armenians and 40,000 Assyrians were thus rescued and put under the care of the British forces. All this is also corraborated through a 40 page report from the British Public Records Office (PRO, which si added as an appendix to the book.

4 stars, definitely. I can understand why some readers may feel otherwise. In this book, he is speaking to his audience or rather an audience already familiar with his talk show, videos, and books. So, if this is your first book for him and you're looking for step by step instructions, this isn't the book for you. You need to start with his book "Act like an success, think like an success".

But it's still a good read, Steve shares personal examples you can learn from. You're going to wish sometimes there was a little organization to the history of his example, but sometimes different messages calls for different examples. Keep reading and you'll find the gems of knowledge. I advise buying.

About the Author

David Doran graduated in 1950 with an external BSc (Eng). He then undertook National Service with the Royal Engineers in Malaya from 1953 to 1955. He is a Fellow of ICE and IStructE, a former member of Council of IStructE and Chairman of five Task Groups. From 1965 to 1985 he was Chief Engineer with George Wimpey plc, where he was Manager of the Civil & Structural Design Department with a staff of 300, and Head of QA for Wimpey Construction. Upon leaving Wimpey, David became an independent consultant and is retained by GBGeotechnics, Cambridge. He has been involved in several important publications since 1988.

Bob Cather graduated in Materials Science from the University of Bath. He initially worked with The Marley Tile Co. Ltd on product development and subsequently spent more than 30 years with Ove Arup & Partners. Bob has considerable expertise in the selection, design and performance of materials in the built environment. This expertise has enabled specialist contribution to projects and for clients worldwide, covering all areas of construction.

GARY GROTH-MARNAT, PhD, is in private practice in Santa Barbara, California, and is an adjunct professor at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and the Pacifica Graduate Institute in Santa Barbara. He is the author of three books and more than 100 journal articles and book chapters.

Great Book- but needs better copyediting

This book offers an excellent overview of many aspects of psych assessment. It was very helpful in reviewing for quals- but watch out! There are several errors in this book! The specificity of a test is incorrectly explained, as is MMPI-2 TRIN interpretation. Some wierd formatting inconsistencies pop up in the Rorschach section... I don't recommend this book for 1st year grad students who are learning this material for the first time because they won't catch the errors and may learn things incorrectly.

The Handbook of Psychological Assessment is an excellent training tool. Extensive research is provided on the development of each assessment. In addition, the author provides a through discription for administration and interpretations.

Excellent resource for practicing clinincians and students

Having read/reviewed numerous 'handbooks,' this is probably the best of the breed. Groth-Marnat has done an excellent job of covering the main assessment techniques used by clinicians to psychologically evaluate patients. Clinicians will find this handbook indispensable, and, in fact, (I predict) will keep it parked on their desk for ready access. Students will find the book thorough, informative and practical. If you are serious about psychological assessment, this one is a 'must-have.' You won't be disappointed.
