So good! This episode takes the series to a new level

I tore through this episode of The Cinderella Society after thoroughly enjoying episode 1 - and this one was even better. Jess is faced with the reality of her new position within in The Cindys, and there's so much she doesn't know yet about the bigger picture that she's frustrated. What I love is that her uncertainty doesn't keep her from standing her ground and doing what she believes is right. She may not always choose wisely, but she doesn't play it safe, not when someone she cares about can be helped. And in the end, you can really see her making decisions from a place of strength. Her inner conflict felt very real, and I ached for her and cheered for her at equal turns (especially the scenes with her would-be Prince Charming, which alternated between being wonderfully fun and then filled with all the angst that any first crush would be - brilliant!). I'm so looking forward to the next installment!

The original book is one of my favourite YAs!

Spoilers for episode 1 of The Cinderella Society.

In the second episode of Kay Cassidy’s re-released The Cinderella Society, we get a lot more into the Wickeds, the nasty girl group that works to dominate as many people as possible. Jess has to reconcile her own terror and self-esteem issues about becoming the new Cinderella Society leader, and learn more about their fight against bullies…all while trying to learn to be a Cindy, work her job, and go on her first dates with Ryan Steele, the crush of her dreams.

Discussions of how painful and frightening bullying and targeting can be, how to help girls stand on their own two feet, and how high school lunchtime can be terrifying are not out of place in this post-It Gets Better/Demi Lovato world, and I liked that part just as much as in the original. Jess also has some hard choices to face when she discovers that the Cindys might have her back – but only to a point. Additions include more about personality (not just image) in the Cinderella Makeover Manual, which really focuses on how to create your best self, inside and out. I loved that part of it, and I’m looking forward to seeing how it changes episode 3 of this series. Other additions include continuing the faith and religion themes and changes in some of the names of the organizations. Deletions I didn’t love were some of the more romance-y bits. While this version kept most of the Ryan-Jess romance in tact, I missed the swooniness of Ryan and Jess’ kisses. This takes things back to a G rating instead of PG, and I was disappointed to see the story scrubbed cleaner.

Overall, I’m still looking forward to continuing this new version of one of my favourite stories, but I do miss the original. That said, I think it will be interesting to see what Cassidy does with the final (and new) episode of these novellas.

I'm always interested in learning the techniques, methods, and thinking of other accomplished photographers, especially when it comes to one of the most challenging areas of contemporary photography--location lighting. Essentially, this book provides detailed thinking and examples of how the examples were put together--what tools were used, the circumstances of the shoot, etc.

Strongly recommend this book to lighting learners and experts alike!

I really enjoyed the illustrations in this book, in particular pages28-31 show a classic examples of how to shoot the engagement style session on location with the right equipment and techniques.
The equipment and principals will not break the bank. Give this book to a friend who may be struggling with location lighting and ask them to pay it forward.

Twin sets and pearls gave way to a new elegance in women’s fashion, while young men ditched their cloth caps in favor of Teddy Boy suits. A new teenage culture arrived along with coffee bars and rock ’n’ roll.

To a background of grisly murders and organized crime, often shrouded in fog, London lurched into the unknown. It was loud, brash and chaotic, yet also sophisticated. A city of opportunity and dangerous temptation, it set the agenda for others to follow. Huge success and degrading humiliation were of passing interest only as the world’s greatest city hurled itself restlessly forward seeking its next distraction.

Informative and Interesting

Journalistic and full of information. In writing a biography of Jeremy Brett (1933-95), I found Hutton's book quite valuable. Though it deals mainly with middle class life, postwar, there is a chapter about creative trends and prominent people in all artistic fields. Wonderful photos as well, and information about the coronation in 1953.

Roger R. Hock is Professor of Psychology at Mendocino College in California and the author of Forty Studies that Changed Psychology: Explorations Into the History of Psychological Research.

A gem--very comprehensive

This book has been very helpful to me in recovering from an abusive marriage. In fact, if you only have the money for one "recovery from abuse" book, this one is the one to get. It covers every type of abuse, even spiritual abuse, which was very relevant to my experiences in a bizarre cultic marriage in which I was beaten over the head with the Bible and told to "submit" all the time. The tone that the book is written in is wonderful. It is neither "oh, you poor pathetic baby" or "get over it, toots" but strikes exactly the right tone--empowering and empathetic but not patronizing or overbearing.
The book helps you not only analyze what happened to you and why, but gets you into the healing process. This book helped me quit beating myself up for ending up with and staying with an abuser (and having SIX children with him into the bargain), for still having feelings for my abusive husband, and for being tempted to go back. Some of the exercises at the end of the chapters were kind of silly, and I skipped them, but some were excellent. The exercise that helped me the most was the one that helped me to look back and remember why I fell in love with that chump to begin with. It WASN'T because I am brainless.
The absolute best thing about this book, in my opinion, is the final chapter. Prior to reading it, I had no idea how in the world I managed to marry an abusive control freak and was scared to death of getting hooked by another one. This chapter really helped me feel capable of choosing another partner who is not abusive. The author tells you exactly what danger signs to look for. I missed every one of them the first time, but I won't miss them again!

I'm reading this book right now, and I felt it was written just for me. Believe me, if you are coming out of any kind of abusive relationship (remember, it does not have to get to the point of physical abuse to be abusive), this book will help you deal with your loss and your recovery. I broke up with whom I thought was the love of my life 2 months ago. Been through hell. I too thought it was insane to love and miss so much a person who was constantly putting me down and hurting me in many ways. It had to stop. But once you're out, STAYING out could be pretty tough. It sure is for me. This book is guiding me through the loss I'm suffering and so far it's been THE GREATEST help I received. It's been like reading my soul. I need to THANK the authors, you've helped a great deal.

This book is the kind of instructional manual that every woman escaping from an abuser needs to read. Every thought, fear, or impulse an abused woman may have is discussed in this very calm, very helpful book.
The authors don't shy away from the darker stuff, and they write in a very straightforward, no-nonsense fashion. Yet the book leaves the reader with an undeniable sense of hope and excitement, as this book makes the reader realize that a new, better life is possible.
